PALY – The once robust and all too familiar noise belonging to throngs of students sure of their safety and brimming with confidence, engaging in lighthearted conversation in every corner of the school, has tapered into a quiet hush as PALY reels from the most violent, destructive, and and psychologically damaging crisis it has faced in its history. Humbled by their shattered delusions of security, students are shifting their feet in uncertainty as they tread with a new-found respect for a world far from their idealistic expectations of perfection: one where the masses suffer, women cry, children starve, and God is dead or far away. Gone is the innocence that came with their youth. They have all aged beyond their years; time’s relentless march forward has taken its inevitable prisoner from all: The Ideal. They may attempt to cling to the assurances of their elders, but their grip is feeble. They have been cast down into the abyss that is the condition of all humans: a cliff polished and oiled with beautiful lies. Below them lies only pitch. Ascent will prove impossible.
